McCants-Pearsall Family
Our Adoption Story
In October 2016, we set out on a journey that would change our lives. We had decided to expand our family and begun to explore the foster-adoption process. We spent several months looking at profiles of kids in the foster care system.
The process was heartbreaking. There are so many kids who need families. We challenged ourselves on what we wanted and what we felt we could handle. We spent countless nights sifting through profiles. Finally, our social worker sent us a profile for two biological brothers. At first, we were reluctant. After carefully reviewing their profile and asking tons of questions, we agreed to set up a first visit.
We scheduled our first meeting in February 2017. The moment they walked in, we felt a mix of panic, love, happiness, and not knowing exactly what to do.... We could tell they felt the same. The boys were shy for a few minutes. Once the boys warmed up to us, we began to talk about school and video games. It felt like they had known us forever. It was surreal that we just met them and it felt so right.
Juan gave us a hug when it was time to leave. Eli shook our hands, then gave in and gave us a hug. We cried the whole way home. In June 2017, Eli and Juan officially came to live with us and the rest is history!
Adoption is as beautiful as it is challenging, but most importantly it is a gift for everyone involved. Loving and being loved is the best gift of all.

There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children.
